FIELD TRIPS:
Reminder: Please
call trip leader at least 2 days before the trip to let them know you are coming or if you need to cancel. This is very important
as we need to keep track of our members in the quarries. Please let us know if you leave the site before the leader as well.
We don’t want to keep looking for someone who has already left. Thank you!!
May 5th
at 10am Simpson’s Quarry in South Glastonbury CT. Here we are
looking for beryl, schorl, garnet, and other pegmatite minerals.
Joel
Russo will be leading this trip. Please call if you intend to go 401-942-3394
Directions
to Simpson’s Quarry: Basic directions from Providence: Take Rt 6 into CT to Rt. 395 S. You will need to go
onto Rt 2 west near Norwich but this seems to be a tricky exit as you need to do an entire cloverleaf to do it, a least according
to Mapquest. Here goes…Merge onto CT-2E/CT32S via exit 81 toward Norwich. Merge onto I-395 via exit 28N toward Providence.
Merge onto CT-2W toward Hartford. You are now on Rt2 west .Follow Rt 2 to CT-83 exit 10 toward E.Gastonbury/ Manchester. Take
slight right onto CT-83/Manchester Rd. Turn left onto Quarry Rd which becomes Chestnut Hill Rd. Turn left onto Main St. (RT17)
Take left onto Michele Dr.. We will meet at the top of the hill where you will have to turn right . The quarry is on the path
going left into the woods . This is about an hour and a half drive from Providence . GPS info: Decimal Degrees:41.636633N,
-72.592430W Degrees, decimal minutes: 41deg38.198min N, 72deg 35.546min W. Degrees,min, sec: 41deg38min 11.88sec N, 72deg35min

May
19th at 10:30am Corey Lane Portsmouth, RI plant fossil site right on the shore line. Nice fern fossils can be found here. Wear gloves here
and old clothes as the shale the fossils are in is very oily and it’s very hard to get out of your skin (like a mechanic
after working on cars).
Janalee Andrade to lead this field trip.
Contact her at 401-272-8741 if you intend to come. Directions: Take Rt. 195 east to Fall River, take Rt. 24 South exit. Follow Rt 24 to the end. When you come to the
light take a right onto Cory Lane. Go to the end of the street but beware… do not park on railroad tracks. They are active. Best to park on either side of the road . Walk down onto beach.
Collecting is on the right in the walls facing the ocean
